The bench design that’s in Tim McCreight’s “Complete Metalsmith” is
terrific–someone built one for me about 14 years ago (for very
little money) and it’s been wonderful and convenient and sturdy and
all that.

Metalsmith by Tim McCreight. This has plans for two benches a small
one and a larger one. This is sold widely on the web, in fact you may
want to go to the library, they probably have a copy or can get one
on loan.
