Hello Kay,

    My answer to a soldering bench cover - thanks to an alert Orchidian -
    is a metal mesh file cube from Target. Since it's metal, it's
    fire-resistant and I can invert the cube to cover the surfaces right
    after soldering.  Cost was US$10. I used to use a plastic milk carton
    crate, but for obvious reasons, had to wait for cool down before
    putting it over the soldering area.
