    Yes, I'm sorry to say, it is another annoying newbie question.  I
    hope you all can help though, I have experimented way too much with
    this - to no avail.  I have been making ball headpins with fine
    silver very successfully, but am unhappy with the softness of the
    silver.  I would like to make the same headpin with Sterling, but
    cannot figure out how to do it without the ball getting "pitted".  Is
    it possible to get the same smooth ball with Sterling as with Fine
    Silver? 

    I use a Mapp Gas torch, but also have propane and butane available. 
    Thank you for any help you can provide.
