The flying borax problem, treating new crucibles, got my attention
and a fix I find quite suitable. I desolve the borax in warm water
and thoroughly paint it on the interior, as well as the back nipple
of the crucible and set aside for some days till dry. Then, when I
heat it up, I can sprinkle in more if necessary to cover any missed
spots, and have a wonderfully cured crucible with no mess at all.
Always works for me and is much more thorough than just throwing the
    powder in.

Happy casting,
Patricia
