Hi Gavin;

    Try a tiny dab of hot glue using a hot glue gun. Stand the ring up
    on a piece of non-glare glass with the glue. Prop the glass sheet by
    the ends on a couple of bricks or short sections of 2X4. You can then
    use a strip of storm gray paper, or 40% gray and place the sheet
    under the glass. Bend the far end up in a gentle curve. Then you'll
    get a graded gray background for your piece. I have a sheet of
    plexiglass, the kind used for flourescent light fixtures, sort of a
    frosted peble texture, somewhat opaque. I bend this over the entire
    glass plate/brick arraingment and prop it by the ends into an arch
    using a couple cinder blocks. Hit the outside of the arch with a
    couple 300 watt spots and use a third, 100 watt spot on a stand in
    front. You get a diffused light over the article and the front spot
    can be moved to eliminate or manipulate any shadows.
