My husband has been in the jewelry industry for decades and many of
his one-of-a-kinds are cast pieces. Of course, someone can make
copies by casting, but that neither means that the artist is any
less of any artist than someone who might just slap a tiger's eye on
a piece of silver and call it a pendant and say their work has more
    integrity because it was fabricated.

Only the first casting can be considered "One of a Kind" When I see
dozens of castings, all the same being called "One of a Kind"
because they have a different colored stone, I cringe. In My
opinion, neither- thousands of the same kind of fabricated work,
nor thousands of the same kind of cast work SHOULD BE "juried"
into shows. I also feel that painters, who offer nothing but
"prints" (which are reproductions too!) should not be juried into
shows either. Of course, this is only MY opinion. . . the reality
is that most juried shows do not reject those who call themselves
"artists" but are offering the same items that can be found at
Target, Wal-Mart, or any other retailer whether it is jewelry,
pottery, wall art, sculpture or any other kind of art.
