    This is very interesting, and helps explain something: whenever I
    walk into the studio and smell its unobtrusive but characteristic
    smell, I instantly begin to relax-- clearly the first move toward
    the state of creative flow, whether I get all the way there or not.
    I feel better, even if I only came in to get something and walk back
    out. 

    One other point on this thread-- I am pretty sure that, with only
    one exception, all the women who have responded have said they like
    music, etc, and the men have said they prefer maximum quiet. I'm
    sure this is far from universal-- may be a fluke, even-- but
    interesting.
