========[ Invite a Friend - http://www.ganoksin.com/invite.htm ]======== Joel asked if we ignore outside distractions while in our "flow", or "zone". I always thought the answer was no; that while I usually like having something on - what varies both by my mood and what I am working on - sometimes I don't want anything; but that either way I was both aware of what I had on, and of what was going on around me. Well.....I spent the last week at the beach. The first few days were family days, then dh went back home to work, and dd had invited two friends (both boys, but not boyfriends, just friends who are boys) down for 4 days. Hosting three 13 year olds, is fun, exciting, busy, loud, full of variety and unexpected surprises and dirt (I don't think I've ever washed so many clothes in one week!), but it is NOT a vacation <vbg> - for the adult, anyway. One night we all sort of collapsed, and the kids put on a dvd movie. Dd (darling daughter) told me the name, I looked blank, dd said "You remember Mom, we watched it while we were making jewelry". Well...turns out it may have been on, but out of the entire movie I remember exactly one scene! So I guess I am NOT as aware of what is going on around me as I thought I was! This was enlightening to me, as I had thought I WAS aware. Also just a tiny bit scary. What if something important happened or was said, and I zoned out on it? Its pretty bad when you can "watch" an entire movie and only remembe one scene! I'll be interested to see how others respond to Joel's question.
