Hi Larry,

    OK, OK I know that I can go to a scrap yard and find some probably
    for pretty cheap, but, if one were not willing to spend days
    searching through various junkyards, where would you order it? I'm
    hoping to find a source in the Eastern US. 

    Look in your Yellow pages. If there aren't any suppliers listed
    there, try some of the fabricators, they generally have a large
    selection of metal on hand. 

    Another source is mscdirect.com. They're a large industrial supply
    house & stock a wide assortment of smaller sizes in steel & many
    other metals.
