It is very unlikely to be solid brass unless it is the type like a
church lectern. All the folding music stands I have seen have been
made from steel with a nickel or brass plating. The coppery colour
probably indicates that the zinc has dissolved out of the brass alloy
through contact with skin acids and so, unless you can cut the metal
back to below this level, it will be almost impossible to regain the
original brass colour. I would suggest that you try rubbing the stand
in an inconspicuous place such as under one of the legs, with steel
wool to see if it is plated or not - if you can rub for some time
without the steel appearing, you could probably tackle your stain in
the same way and then polish it up afterwards.

Best Wishes,
Ian
