Dear Sadie,

Glad to see you're interested in weaving with wire. The
possibilities are endless. Where are you located? I frequently
teach "woven metal" workshops around the U.S. and give private
lessons in my studio (Boston area). My next workshop will be at the
Chelmsford Art Center in Massachusetts in May. And I have another in
January (2005) in Hew Hampshire and several in between.

As for weaving, both table looms (four harness) and floor looms work
well with wire, but I find the table looms preferable, as they don't
work-harden the metal quite as much. You may use wire for both the
warp and weft, or fiber for one and wire for the other.

Almost all basketry techniques are transferable to wire. Twining
works especially well, as does wrapping and coiling.

Often, you can glean information from fiber arts books such as: card
weaving, basketry, etc., but if you're a visual learner, as many of
us are, there's nothing like good old hands on experience.

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to contact me.
Oh, I should say that thanks to Arline Fisch, my instructor in
graduate school, I've been weaving with metal since 1976...and loving
    it.
