========[ Invite a Friend - http://www.ganoksin.com/invite.htm  ]========

Orchid friends-- I need input about a customer complaint. I think the
subject of black smudges from silver jewelry has come up before, but,
if I recall correctly, it was on skin. A customer of mine just called
to talk to me about a silver necklace which she loves, but which
marked a brand-new yellow turtleneck sweater that she bought
especially because she thought the necklace would look good on it.
The sweater is silk, nylon and rayon. Apparently, the whole necklace
left it's "shadow" on the sweater.

The only explanation I can think of is that the brand-new sweater
may have had a starch or other chemical in it that caused it to act
like a polishing cloth. I advised her to get it cleaned (she was
inclined to wear the combination again, since she now cannot wear the
sweater without the necklace). I also suggested she try wearing the
piece with some other (already damaged) light colored garment to see
    whether there was a problem.

The necklace involves many strands of 1mm snake chain, so I'm not
excited about "bringing up the fine silver" on the whole thing. I'm
not sure I could get the original look back, nor am I sure it would
    solve the problem.

Additionally, do you think I'm obliged to offer to pay for the
    cleaning?

So, it anybody out there has any experience /insight that will help,
    please pass it along!
