    I'm sure all the professionals out there agree with this, but there
    is one noteworthy exception. I use glue-- super glue-- to hold parts
    in place just until they are secured some other way. This is most
    commonly to hold awkward joints in place until I can brace them with
    sand, gravel, "Extra Hands" or some other heat-proof material. The
    glue burns off as soon as the torch hits, no problem.               
                 
    I can also envision using it to hold a stone into the setting until
    I got the metal over it, then removing the glue with debonder. If
    the seat/setting is cut right, this should not be necessary, but we
    can't start out as experts.                             

    The previous poster's point, that a piece should never leave the
    work bench held together with glue (except pearls) is beyond
    dispute. But, of course, glues have their uses.
