I usually just let my copper tarnish and, so far, none of the people
who've bought it have complained. It seems to have "darkened" by the
time I've finished a piece--I do wirework, so it's in constant
contact with my hands, and I assume this is why.

But...I decided to donate a ring to an auction and thought I'd clean
it up a little, so I used a rouge cloth. Whoops! It turned gray!
Really weird looking...Can somebody explain this to me? Is it the
silver residue on the cloth or some strange chemical reaction with
the copper? Do I need to pickle it to get it off? In this case I
don't think that would be wise, because it has a carnelian in it...

Gratefully,
Lisa Orlando
