    Jim Best to have that laser welded to avoid any damage to it. I have
    worked on heavy buckles and badges in the past with a torch and if
    there is any detail or enamel it burn off much less trying to
    restore the finish back to original. 

    If you want to send it to me I will be happy to weld that in place
    for you.
