M'lou,

    My silver bell only had pierce work on the outside half of the bead.
     I took your suggestion and made cuts as far up to the base as I
    could, so that (as you suggested) the bell was divided into four
    parts.  And, guess what, the bell rings!  Thank you.  Thanks to
    those who commented as I not only have a silver bell that rings, I
    learned a lot more in the process about bells.
