    Slosh about a cup full of vinegar - ANY sort of vinegar - into a
    bowl, add about a spoon full  - ANY size spoon - of common salt, and
    add your oxidized copper. Warm the solution if you like, it'll work
    more rapidly. 

    Then OBSERVE the results.  The addition of Sodium Chloride to Acetic
    acid results in among other things what is effectively a dilute
    solution of Hydrochloric acid.
