    Leah, if I understand you correctly, I think you're talking about
    "top-drilled" beads, usually in some version of a teardrop shape.
    Instead of a through-the center placement of the drill hole, it is
    horizontally drilled across the narrow end of the teardrop, and wired
    through to attach to the chain. Or - a traditionally drilled bead is
    attached in the same fashion with the use of a headpin or some other
    version of wire wrapping, basically becoming a "dangle" drop. Does
    this make sense? -Margery
