> I have a few options to offer for your student.

One consideration would be corrective surgery that can now correct
astigmatisim but would not help with her magnification needs. I use
Zeiss Lenses for my general work during the workday. These are the
equivelent of a # 7 optivisor or slightly better. With a wonderful
working distance of 11 " and are very lightweight. They correct both
my far sighted issues and need for reading magnification so nothing
else needed. I buy these from Miller Optical in Texas and have been
very happy with them.I believe they are also available in a lighter
    power.

I also use surgical loupes from Design for vision in N.Y. These are
larger and heavier telescopes and I wear them for fine detail work
only but they also contain my needed script ( optional ), and the
combination of the two answers all of my needs. They also make the
smaller lenes AT lower magnification with or without script included..
It also seems to help to keep the " Pop " in the greater
magnification as I noticed a few years back that if I wore the
stronger magnification all day, my eyes would over time seem to
adjust and I would loose some of the power somehow. I can't explain
this medically but this is what I found happened.

This is another area where our trade falls far short of
professional. To think that for the majority of the trade the typical
answer to this need is plastic lenes with a terrible working distance
and fixed pupilariy distance, as if all our eyes are the same
distance apart. This creates terrible strain on our eyes and over the
course of time I believe bigger trouble, and this in a trade where
our healthy vision is so critical . Sorry to ramble a bit but "your
eyes" are worth it. Peace Karl
