My name is Dawn, and I'm a glass bead artist. I joined this list
because it sounds fascinating, and specifically found it because I'm
looking for some information and getting lost on the web.

If anyone could tell me if 23K gold usually has copper in it, it
would help me out a ton. I'm currently organizing a large group
purchase of gold leaf for use with beadmaking, and got sucked into
the composition of less than 24K gold.

You see, each precious metal reacts differently with liquid glass,
silver turns yellowish where it doesn't collect in larger, silver
colored, deposits. Copper turns either black or red, depending on a
few circumstances. Copper can also turn greenish, but it depends on
what you are doing. Gold tends to be reddish where it isn't gold. Of
course, you all may know this, and I may be babbling for no reason
    :)

Anyway, it's come up that it may make a difference with the karats,
and while I know some people are using 23Kt gold, I don't know if
their 23Kt gold has copper in it or not! Most bead artists haven't
learned as much about this stuff as I have recently...we just tend
to buy "gold leaf" from our glass suppliers, and use it. Silly me, i
had to go and find a better price and get so confused!

So, I guess I'll hit "send now" and stop, LOL.

Dawn
