[Tidbits] The Artist ... The Sculptor ... The Jeweler

The Artist … The Sculptor … The Jeweler.

I have written about him before. Twice in fact. This will be number
three. He works in miniature. He often works in ivory. He works in
gold … and in silver … and sometimes in wood. He’s a jeweler …
he’s a sculptor. He is as talented as talented gets. I’ve done his
Man atop an Elephant. I’ve done is Belt-Buckle Kiss. Both were works
in ivory. I will presently show you his Ring With the Ivory Face.

Let me tell you something about this guy. British fellow. Had
exhibitions in England, Germany, USA, Sweden. Has had public
collections in London, Scotland, Switzerland, and more. I don’t
know how famous he is. I don’t know how well known. Whatever it is
… it should be more.

He uses imagery like no one I know. His work is sensuous …
romantic … mythological … dynamic … vigorous … vital. What
would I do–I wonder–if Roget hadn’t created his thesaurus? Anybody
know who he is yet? Hmmm?

He works on a small scale. He gives his work an illusion of
immensity. He sees things differently. While the world is busy
pulling and yanking their car tires off their axles … our man
takes a hammer and knocks the axles off the tires. He has a
different view. For those of you who may think I have a penchant for
this guy’s work … to you I say: Correctamundo! You’re on the ball
and on the button.

I have an image of his latest work. A woman’s face carved in ivory
and mounted in an 18 karat gold and silver ring and inlaid with
opals. What is she thinking, I wonder, this woman whose chin rests
upon a fair lady’s finger. Who is she? Someone evil? Someone
benevolent? Is she a reigning queen … regal and ready to rule her
world? Is she a temptress … ready to seduce all who come within
range of her charms. Or is she a hungry cannibal … waiting for the
wearer of her face to fall asleep so she can wriggle out of her
captive sheathing and nibble away at her owner’s flesh till she’s
sated from a night’s fitful feeding? Let me know what you think
folks.

No matter however … for one thing is clear. The work is
outstanding … and unique. It’s a product of a singular vision. Go
look at it. Go look at the work of David Hensel and write me your
opinions.

For those of you who are new to this thing called Tidbits…may I
direct you to my home page at www.tyler-adam.com where you will
scroll down the left side menu till you get to the area that says
Tidbits … and then click on the link that says: Lady- Ring …
where you will see a graphic of an ivory of incredible beauty.

And there ya have it. That’s it for this week folks. Catch you all
next week. Benjamin Mark
