    Maybe the hole in the rear wasn't large enough. The more transparent
    the stone the more you will see behind it. So if you have allot of
    metal that's what you'll see. 

    Also the depth of the setting would also effect the reflections as
    well. 

    That's my 2 cents I don't set stones yet :D Guy...
