Two other options I have used for carved drawer pulls: You can drill
holes in the stone and epoxy in the female threaded inserts used in
woodworking. When I do this for customers I actually carve the pull
from a piece of granite that is as thick as the distance from the
surface of the drawer to the surface of the pull. So if the pull is
1.5 inches thick and there will be 1 inch behind the pull space for
your fingers then I start with a 2.5 inch piece of granite. I drill
out the hole for the insert then use a core drill to establish the
outside diameter of the spacer. THE CENTER HOLE NEEDS TO BE DEEPER
THAN THE CORE DRILL (in this case 1 inch) OR THE WHOLE SPACER WILL
SHEAR OFF. Another method I used per the customers request was to
use an 8 gauge brass backing plate. I used JB Weld attach the stone
and the brass together. Then I painted the visible small seam of the
grey JB Weld with a brass colored enamel paint. I made sure the seam
was concave so that there would be little or no wear on the paint.
Before the adhesive step I drilled a hole for the bolt and
countersunk (?) the stone side of the brass so that a brass bolt
with a wood screw-type top could beset in place and then the whole
thing JB Welded together. (It really is harder to write about a
process if you don't know the correct terminology) Then I used
decorative brass lamp finial tubes for the spacers.

I hope this makes sense. It's much easier to understand if you can
see me waving my hands around.
