I have used several quartz crystal specimens for wire wrap jewelry
that were coated with titanium oxide. This process leaves a rainbow
coating on all surfaces. I have seen "Mystic Topaz" at gem shows and
I suspect it is the same process. In fact, the company that furnished
me the crystal specimens also gave me a faceted stone that was
coated. The process can be varied to give slightly different color
configurations. In my opinion, Topaz does not
form by nature in this manner.
