Findings - ive's definition: Why are they called findings?

beadyspice - they are called ‘findings’ because the word is derived
from two old root words of unknown origin: ‘fin’ - meaning to seek
water-borne things bearing scales, or ‘to fish’, as in to look for
something, & ‘dings’ - a word from which ‘thing’ was etymologically
hatched. ergo: since findings are located so often on the end of
jewelry (sometimes very long) pieces it translates into: “where the
hell is the end of this thing?” hope this helps -
