This remarkable early 1860 book (written over 160 years ago!) is 179 pages of solid, interesting information. It is remarkable how much of it remains useful and interesting. The author was a pioneer in using electroforming for making things, and contributed to what was then an emerging field of science and art. This book is as original as it gets. The insights (such as electoforming is the result of accidental observations) are pithy, strong and incredibly early. If you are interested in the history of our field this is a must-have book. Really interesting stuff. Chapters include... [read more]....

I've always loved this 1916 book. It informed me at the start of my career and taught me much about the workshop, making chasing tools and more. The book is completely full of excellent drawings, wonderful pen and ink sketches, first of tools, then a bench with all dimensions, then a series of step-by-step projects, 23 of them.
This book is Manga for jewelers. It is like watching a video, each step is artfully drawn, a wonderful visual cartoon for goldsmithing. Each sketch is accompanied by distilled, clever, text. The projects chosen contain all the skills one needs for making jewelry and basic silversmithing. There are great tips on riveting, soldering, sawing, and so on. I really can't over-emphasize how wonderful and readable the drawings are. The details of... [read more...]

The author's goal was not for it to be the authoritative book but rather to have the most useful and interesting information, to provide stories for his employees to use in selling jewelry. He was synthesizing from the books and the field out there at his time to make it understandable and interesting. Recommended ! A good book..... [read more...]
